We are a gospel-centered, missional, evangelical church that is multi-ethnic and multi-generational. We are a church with a passion for Jesus Christ and a heart for reaching the city of Charlotte. We'd like to introduce ourselves with the hope that you would learn more about us, and we'd love to meet you in person!
We believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. To Him we owe reverence, worship, love and obedience (Gen. 1:1; Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 5:3-4; 1 Tim.1:17; Hebr.1:1-3).
The Eternal Son of God who was 100% man and 100% God and came to redeem sinful man with His life.We believe that Jesus Christ is the Eternal Son of God that came into the world so that He might manifest God to men, fulfill prophecy, and become the redeemer of the lost world. He is the one and only mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. He was 100% man and 100% God. He was born of a virgin, conceived of the Holy Spirit, possessed a human body and had a sinless nature. (Isa. 7:14; Matt.1:18-23; John 1:1-18, 29; 14:6; 2 Cor.5:19-21; Gal. 4:4-5; Eph. 1:20; Phil. 2:5-11; 1 Tim. 2:5-6; 3:16; Hebr.1:1-3, 4:14-15, 9:12-15; 1 John 4:14-15; Rev. 19:16).
We believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is the divine person equal with God the Father, and God the Son. He is the third person in the Trinity. He has indwelt every believer since the Day of Pentecost and by His baptism unites Christ’s own into one body. The baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs immediately upon saving faith when we are placed into the body of Christ, the true Church. The filling of the Holy Spirit is as the occasion demands for service. The Holy Spirit can fill the believer by having an extensive influence and control over their lives. The Holy Spirit administers gifts of the Spirit as He pleases. He seals, regenerates, exalts, fills, convicts, indwells, guides, instructs, helps, comforts and sanctifies (Gen.1:2; John 14:16-17, 26; 15:26; 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4, 38; Rom. 8:9-11; 1 Cor. 12:13; Eph. 4:30; 5:18; I Thess. 5:19; 1 Tim. 3:16; 1 John 4:13).
One God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
The History of Wellspring
Though Wellspring Church did not officially open its doors to the public until the launch service held in March 2007, it began as a burden on the heart of Dwayne R. Bond, Lead Pastor and Visionary of Wellspring, many years before. By seeking God in prayer, studying the Scripture, and seeking wise counsel, Pastor Bond was led to relocate his family from Prince George’s County, Maryland to Charlotte, North Carolina and plant Wellspring Church.
In February 2006, Pastor Bond arrived in Charlotte and in March 2006, 5-6 families began gathering in his home and did so for several months. A coffeehouse bible study was started in the Ballantyne area and as these gatherings began to grow, people began to pray about where God wanted to plant Wellspring. By God’s divine design, the lease to obtain space at J.M. Robinson Middle School was offered to Wellspring and in July 2006, Wellspring began to occupy its current space at the school.
From July 2006 to February 2007, God expanded the core team at Wellspring and Pastor Bond led the way in teaching the mission, vision and core values of Wellspring in preparation for the public launch of the church.
As God began to bring people to join in the endeavor of planting Wellspring, the need to serve the children became evident. As a result, on Christmas Eve 2006, the children’s ministry was born and has grown exponentially since that time.
After much praying, teaching, and planning, Wellspring had its inaugural service on Sunday, March 4, 2007, where over 150 people were in attendance. In June 2007, we held our first partnership seminar and in July 2007 presented our first partners (traditionally called “members”).
Since 2007, Wellspring has participated in numerous community outreaches and service projects, supported other church plants and service organizations, has conducted several prayer walks throughout the city of Charlotte, and has held several baptisms. God is doing some amazing things as He positions Wellspring to love people who are looking for genuine satisfaction, which can only be found in Jesus Christ. This year, Wellspring celebrated its third anniversary and we cannot wait to see what God has in store as He continues to write Wellspring’s story.
After the ascension of Jesus Christ, He then sends the Holy Spirit to empower the apostles as witnesses (Acts 1:8) and to spread the message of the gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:19). We believe that planting local churches is an effective method that God uses to bridge cultural and generational gaps in order to proclaim the gospel.
In October 2006, Wellspring became partners with the Acts 29 Network. Acts 29 is a network of like-minded, yet diverse churches that have banded together to plant gospel-centered churches that are missionally minded, culturally engaging and theologically orthodox. Acts 29 believes that we are first Christians, second Evangelicals, third Missional, and fourth Reformed.
By God's grace, Jesus is using Wellspring and Acts 29 to influence and shape the church planting culture through both rock-solid theology and contextualizing the gospel. Our church is accountable to the network of over 250 men committed to Jesus, the Scriptures, healthy family life and reaching lost people with the gospel.
We are currently positioning our church to plant other churches in Charlotte that are missional in their respective communities sent by Christ with the gospel (John 20:21). In the meantime, we take joy in financially supporting the following churches:
What is The City?
The City is a web-based software platform that enables the daily life, community, and ministry of our whole church, so we can accomplish our mission (Zondervan).
Why is Wellspring using The City?
The elders of Wellspring and the technical team have known about The City for more than a year. We have strategically waited for the right time to implement it within Wellspring. This year, I’m intentionally trying to streamline our internal processes, develop effective systems and enhance our communication as we strive together to fulfill our mission.
Four months ago, the elders decided that The City warranted our investment. Five reasons drove our decision:
Personally, I am ecstatic about how The City will revolutionize our church and knit our hearts together for what God has called us to accomplish.
Next Steps?
Please contact our technology team if you're interested in hearing more or signing up for The City.
See you online.
